Hello Poundburyians, It has on my birth certificate that my parents home address was, 24 M.Q. Poundbury Camp, Dorchester. Assuming that these homes have now been demolished(?) could somebody kindly point out to me where they stood so that when I visit Poundbury I can take a look see. Thanking you in anticipation. God bless you and yours. Bill Saunders

Thank you for the pointers team, Forgive me for not saying what M.Q. stands for, after 25 years in the Army myself it is written in my DNA = Married Quarters. In my own search prior to going online I had discovered the 1890 map [thank you for the pointer Nils]. The information there led me to believe that the most probable location was NW of the Infantry Barracks marked. However I did not realise that during WW1 there was a "Pounbury [P.o.W] Camp. [thank you Administrator].T his hutted accomodation may well have still stood after WW2 and found use as "temporary Married Quarters". As I have not been able to corroborate this on the Internet it will probably need living memory evidence from a long term resident to throw light on the matter/local archive information. Further input would be appreciated. God bless you and yours, Bill

Perhaps the Dorset History Centre would know of a local history society that would have someone who'd know. www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=2203 Might be worth a phone call to find out. Alternatively, would the Army have a records office where they keep this kind of thing? They must get lots of enquries trying to find out where a relative served, what campaign, etc., perhaps they have plans for Army camps too? Cheers, Nils.
