Hello Vanilla Welcome to Poundbury You are about to join a great community, Poundbury is like no other place I have ever lived in before. When you get moved in I would recommend going for regular walks around, maybe to the Shop in Pummery Square, and you will soon start bumping into people and get chatting. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to post them on the forum and I'm sure you will get loads of people willing to help. ;D

Many thanks for your message. After researching some of the developers last night on the net, I came across some quite alarming reviews on houses built around the country by them. Has anyone had any major problems or defects? I am sure I've nothing to worry about but just want to be fully prepared. Could someone please also answer a few questions for me....is there a Pub in Poundbury? What is the closest supermarket? Are there regular bus services? Does a large percentage of the community get involved in the community events/clubs? Many thanks.

Hello Vanilla, The Poete Laureate Pub is in Pummery Square, near the Poundbury Village Stores & the Brownsword Hall. If your after a large supermarket then most people go to Tescos. Its on the B3147 as your going into Dorchester, and is near Dorchester Football Club and Halfords. The Population of Poundbury must have nearly doubled over the last few years so its becoming hard to keep the strong community spirt that the development had early on. If you want to get involved then you will find plenty of clubs and groups that regularly meet at the Brownsword Hall. Take a look at the Clubs page on the Poundbury website www.poundbury.info Busses- Click on the link below and put Poundbury in the destination box and click search www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southwest/dorset/home/index.php

Dear Tia, Welcome to Poundbury ;D RubbishWe don't have bins on Poundbury, so all you do is place your rubbish out in strong plastic bags. I guess you could store your bags of rubbish in a bin in the garden or garage until collection day. TelstarTelstar Services Ltd 01935 428255, Telstar House, Yeovil, BA22 8RT. Just found this information on the net so I guess its correct, let me know if its wrong. MancoYour best bet here is to have a chat with - Phase 1 - Peter Bryant 263920 Phase 2 - Peter Noble 264070 Manco 1 & 2 are companies that all residents in that phase are share holders of. The company takes care of the courtyards around the back the houses, and most other land not taken over by the Highways Agency or the Council. Hope thats of help

I presently live in Bournemouth but intend to retire to Poundbury in about seven years time. I often go with my family or students (I'm an EFL teacher) to visit Poundbury and we always love spending time there. It really is a lovely village/town. I never tire of just strolling around the pretty streets and then rounding off the day by dropping into the coffee shop next to the Poet Laureate. We have been in the pub a few times and though it is a bit pricey the food is quite good, however the restaurant next to the the Garden Centre is much better, food and value wise. We had lunch there a few weeks ago and it was scrumptious. Will definitely go there again. If you see us walking around just say hello! We're easy to recognise as my wife is Japanese and my three daughters are all Eurasian. I'm a bit of an old fart with a beer belly (caused from drinking too much coffee with cream!!). It's great to see how Poundbury is developing and we always look forward to seeing what has changed since our last visit! We try to go to the farmers market when it's held on the first Saturday of the month.

Hi Brichan ;D Welcome to the Poundbury forum! ;D The speed Poundbury is being built at the moment, moving here in seven years time should be a very good idea ;D I would imagine by that time most of the development should be finished and the buildings will start to look more weathered in and settled ;D Hope to see you around! ;D

will have to look out for you next time you are in Poundbury then, you probably pass our house, it's the one with the noisy, nosey dog up the window lol!! He's harmless but likes to shout at everyone passing by, which is frequently!!

Thank you for the nice welcome. Who knows? I might win the national lottery or the premium bonds and move to Poundbury sooner! I have noticed on our walks around Poundbury that there are no churches! (how refreshing). Does anyone know why? Not that I'm complaining, as I am a great fan of Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris!

Does anyone know why there are no churches in Poundbury? I think it really comes down to money If you wanted to build a proper church in Poundbury I would imagine the Duchy insisting on it being built of cut stone very expensive! I know the church are not short of a bob or two but we must be talking of £5Million+ Another thing would be that I dont think the Duchy would foot the bill coz Charles would not want to be seen as favoring a Christian church over any other religions rightly so! ;D
