The University West of England and Dorset Police are conducting research within Dorchester to determine residents perception of crime.
Over the next few weeks researchers will be calling upon properties within Phase 1 of Poundbury and inviting residents to take part in a simple survey. You don’t have to take part in this study and if you chose to stop you can at anytime, and won’t have to explain why.
However, we do hope you take part as the purpose of this survey is to find out what YOU feel is important in relation to crime, and how this is affecting you.
The researchers undertaking this survey have all been security vetted and will be in possession of identification. The survey itself should take around 15 minutes to complete. All information is strictly confidential unless the researcher feels that a criminal law has been broken or a safeguarding issue has been disclosed.
This research will give a clearer picture as to residents perception of crime within Dorchester and highlight any areas where safety can be improved.
The findings will be published in a research Masters Dissertation as well as a number of other formats. These include electronic journals, presentations, books and other research related material.
This research offers a somewhat unique perspective as it uses the residents knowledge and experiences as ‘experts’ in the field. As such it offers you an opportunity to voice your concerns and shape future developments and planning decisions.
As a means of saying thank you for completing the questionnaire you will be given a free Safe-can security product. These cans look and feel like the real thing but act as a ‘canny’ hiding place where valuables and cash can be placed.
If you would like to know more or take part in this survey please contact Ian.Curtis@dorset.pnn.police.uk or see the attached leaflet.
