Recently I have noticed a number of window cleaners still using ladders on houses in the Poundbury area. Granted some houses are not very high, though does any one know that window cleaners are no longer allowed to use ladders unless they can justify their use. On Poundbury no one can justify the use of cleaning windows by ladder as most windows open inward to allow for safe cleaning. This is not a design fault, yes the windows can be awkward but it creates a safe environment to clean windows. For those people who do not have the time or are unable to clean their own windows, window cleaners with pole reach systems are available and there are quite a few companies out there now that the laws on ladder use has changed. From high unexpected winds to gravel paths and window cleaners working all day on ladders, it is only a matter of time before one falls off. i don't think many people realise that they would be liable for the injured or dead window cleaner. check out www.hse.gov.uk and search for window cleaners.

Inward opening window? Maybe on some of the latest houses, but as far as I know all of phase 1 windows are sash or outward opening. "window cleaners are no longer allowed to use ladders unless they can justify their use" haa! ;D thats sounds like some sort of European rubbish You can only use a ladder if its justified? so its ok to use it if you cant reach? ;D

Does anyone know any names of local windows cleaners? I see a couple of guys occasionally clean some of the three-storey office buildings in the Peverell Avenue West area. They have water barrels on trolleys and do it all from standing on the ground, their mop heads being on long poles that have the cleaning solution fed up them. Quite clever, although I don't know how they do the squeegee bit. Anyway, I was trying to contact them but without waiting months until I happen to bump into them again.
