The reception of both analogue and Freeview channels is currently very iffy. Freeview can pixiallate and loose the signal completely. The analogue signal will also be absent at those times it is missing on Freeview. I am told by a Telstar engineer that the problem is due to High Pressure causing a French transmitter to interefere with our reception. Apparantly it happens over Dorchester and presumably surrounding areas but is more prevalent in Poundbury because we rely on an amplified signal. It is not clear what is being done to resolve the issue but the inference is that a stand alone aerial may reduce the effect of any potential interference. It would be interesting to know if anyone has tried a loft aerial or even one outside to prove the point.

Hi Collingwood, I too have found analogue reception to be iffy. It's typically BBC 2 and Channel 4 that go bad at the same time; they're similar frequencies if I recall correctly. ITV can also be poor. BBC 1 rarely so.
Over the weekend it went to pot on successive days in the evening, normally from about 19:00 to 21:00.
The high pressure reason from Telstar sounds right. A French channel can often be seen superimposed; you can tell by the titles and credits. In fact, it often looks more interesting than what's meant to be on! As I understand it, the reason Channel 5 was never available in this area is because transmitting on its frequency would interfere with French broadcasts.
Anyway, it would be nice to know if anything can be done given it affects quite a few of us. Interesting that Poundbury's worse than Dorchester.

So this is the village of the future where all the latest technologies are integrated into one seamless environment and where industry lives alongside homes. The only problem is that it is not connected. The information highway stops on the boundaries. No doubt one day thought will be given to providing fibre optic connections and then all the roads can be dug up (again). Has anybody heard of conduits and pre-planning? Come to think of it has anybody in the planning department heard of remarkable “new” inventions like satellites and coaxial cable. Dig up the road.

Would just like to add my frustrations regarding TV reception. I've lived on pundbury for less than one year and have since found out the following
Sky+ is impossible to have because houses are only wired with a single wire satellite connection into each home. (sky+ needs two cables). Also the satellite signal into my property in particular is rubbish and I found it impossible to get a steady strong enough signal to maintain a picture. I have since cancelled my contract with sky as had no other choice.
As for freeview, well that not to bad from the ariel point in my lounge. I now have BT vision which requires freeview and it seems pretty good. If the freeview signal drops out at least i can watch TV through BT vision. Its surprisingly good.
As for reception in other rooms in the house, well thats currently a problem. Have tried connecting TV's in all bedrooms and the strength of signal according to the portable digibox is just about 25%. When scanning for channels the box just does not pick up any. The hous already has a multi 4 way signal booster fitted under the stairs. Disconnecting all cables from this box made no difference to the signal. This would suggest the booster is faulty or does not work. Problem is the builders never marked the cables in the cupboard so i have no idea which cable feeds which room. Also have 4 outlets from the booster but 5 ariel points. mmmm shame I dont have a wiring diagram...oh yes of course builders dont do this do they.
In short I'm appalled at the lack of vision when it comes to up to date technology for a development such as poundbury. Typical really. lets make it all look very pretty, tell people what they can and cant do then when they have moved in ignore all the issues.
